Though the custom of reciting Yizkor is less than a thousand years old, it has become an integral part of our festival rhythm, enabling us to celebrate and experience these sacred days alongside those who have passed on. The Yizkor service is a time to remember, to reflect, and to renew our connection to loved ones who are no longer physically present, yet whose influence continues to shape our lives.

By recalling their names, praying on their behalf, and giving charity in their merit, we affirm the deep bond that endures even beyond this world. This act of remembrance is not merely a gesture—it is a testament to the unbroken relationship that transcends time and space. Through our prayers and acts of kindness, we bring nachat (spiritual satisfaction) to their souls and elevate their memory in a tangible way.

The Yizkor Fund has been established to honour these memories while building and strengthening Jewish life in Cambridge. Contributions made to the fund support the growth of Jewish projects, ensuring that the values and legacies of our loved ones continue to flourish in our community.

The Yizkor service also provides a unique opportunity to express our dedication and reaffirm that familial attachment. It is a deeply personal experience, enriched by the ability to insert the names of loved ones directly into the prayer, symbolizing the individual bond we share with each one. We invite you to submit the names of your loved ones to be included in the Yizkor prayers, allowing their legacy to be part of this sacred tradition.
